So we finally get to the area of the glacier and after getting on the same page with Smokey, we were set on our way.
Let me tell you folks, Smokey is for fire prevention, but sparks were ignited.
Anyway, so we take another small hike to approach the glacier. It was a glorious day! We were afforded so many fantastic views!
Some pictures just need to be a bit larger. Nice job K. Phelps. So up ahead is the glacier and check out all that snow! Yikes!
We finally arrived at the base of the glacier, and from being here around a month before it has receded quite noticeably.
Proof that Alaska is Lost #2. I swear I thought Jacob was going to come out of that cavern. Look at those rays, something is totally going on there. I really wanted to drink some of the water, but I think we all know what would have happened if I did that; stuck in Alaska forever and I have to fight the black smoke! Plus, the water looked pretty awesome, I didn't want to mess with it.
If that isn't ominous water, I don't know what is.
But in true Alaska fashion, we decided to climb around on rocks and the glacier!
Finally, on top of the glacier! My knee apparently didn't want to play with the others... But Lost picture #3. Look we have Jack (it's the bandana and I'm no Kate; but no one is), Libby (the innocent one), and Sawyer (the vulgar one).
We explored all over this hunk of ice!
We even got into its crevices! Nothing is sacred with us! Except the cavern.
We had every intention of reaching the top to touch these glaciers!
And we got to where the ice starts up on the left side of the valley. Yes, I said the left side. We ended up having to cross the glacial waters to get to the other side (where this photo was taken)...barefoot.
Yup that...
with these... *Disclaimer! These are not my feet. Kathleen Phelps owns these weasels.
We weren't able to succeed in our mission due to numerous factors at the time. #1. We didn't have ice gear #2. We didn't have water (and I wasn't about to drink the holy Lost water for reasons mentioned above) #3. Kathleen thought she had a flight to catch
So we retreated and continued our drive back to Anchorage but not without a couple of fitting goodbyes!
Double rainbows!!! No, we didn't cry. Yes, we thought about it, but sadly it would be quite unoriginal and the other guy is much more enthusiastic. Jerk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI
Even with tears aside, it was pretty amazing!
I am pretty sure there were rainbows in Lost. So Lost photo #4.
And lastly, here is the Lost clincher.
Hello Dharma station #11. Pretty close to the Hydra Station, don't you think? But this one shall be dubbed as Octopus station!
Moral of the story: Lost in Alaska.
A video to leave you all with.
I am fairly certain "The Others" weren't happy with us ruining their vegetation, but man, those mushrooms just didn't want to go down without fight! And well, none of us have kids for them to take, so I am not too concerned.
